Webster’s Dictionary defines an inflection point as a moment when significant change occurs or may occur. This may seem like an absurd notion, but based on new information and recent input, I believe The Hungry Artist is turning a significant corner, and you get to witness it in real-time.
The Finds
This list of Finds was difficult for me to curate. I’ll talk more about that later.
I have a dream of an art studio filled with any type of printer or print-making machine I can ever imagine using. A Risograph is high on the list.
What do street artist JR, contemporary artist Marc Bradford, and architect Peter Marino have in common? I’ll tell you in 60 minutes.
Years ago, I gave a talk to a small group of artists advising them to expect their customers to become more mobile-friendly and their online shopping presence should reflect that trend. They looked at me like I shot Andy Warhol.
If you’re a photographer or videographer and you’re looking to sell some of your outtakes and b-roll, maybe give FOAP a look.
I keep telling myself I need to do more collaborations in order to grow my business. I also keep telling myself I need to drink less coffee and bourbon, but that’s not going too well either.
In the continuing RedBubble controversy, Shimmy Morris potentially discovers RB’s real intention behind their new policies.
One Alternative to RedBubble
I shared a video last week about my views on RedBubble. In it, I talk about many reasons why people should leave the platform and forge their own path using an e-commerce solution like Shopify*. Some of the viewers worried that Shopify is too expensive and too difficult to start for anyone with limited funds and technical skills.
What if I said you could get Shopify for three months for only $3? In that amount of time, almost anyone could build up a shop, connect it to a print-on-demand service, and be selling to their fans, friends, and family.
To sweeten the deal and make getting started easy, download a complimentary copy of 7-Day Art Shop ($49 value) which walks you through building a Shopify store in seven days. Now you have no excuses.

The Inflection Point
This post is scary for me because it’s more than I promised, which in the world of email newsletters and blog posts, can be too much for some. What I promised was a single, weekly newsletter update featuring some interesting, timely, and well-curated links to stories that might interest readers, followed by a small bit of storytelling or commentary on the state of the creative world.
Those usually happen on Friday, and unless you’re reading this days later, this is not Friday, and though this message is chock full of links to quality content, some will think it’s too much and leave.
On my web browser, I have a bookmark folder labeled Creative News and it’s filled with over 30 different websites that I visit weekly (sometimes more) to make sure I’m abreast of all the most relevant stories. I also subscribe to dozens of email newsletters, some of which feed me new info daily. I sift through this deluge of information every day so that I can share some of it with you.
But the thing is, both last week and this week, I have accumulated an extensive list of links I want to share with you. I gathered these links since last Friday’s update and I still have two days to go until this coming Friday.
It’s too much to fit into one weekly update, and it would be unfair to not share it all because none of you ever read the same content. I know because when I look at the statistics of links that get clicked, aside from a couple of outliers, most of the links get the same amount of attention.
Everybody clicks something, but nobody clicks everything, and that is an opportunity for growth. Imagine if just one of the bits of information I share ended up being the one thing you needed to help elevate your creative work and business or side hustle.
Now imagine I didn’t share that one link with you because I had to choose to share other links instead for the sake of space.
The goal of The Hungry Artist is to inspire fearless creativity and an enterprising spirit.
Starting today, regular readers are going to get two Hungry Artist newsletters per week (Wednesday & Friday). Members/Makers will get an additional update on Sunday filled with exclusive content including the bonuses they are accustomed to receiving.
I’ll also be sharing independent commentary pieces as posts (non-newsletter) here on Substack for moments where we can go a bit deeper on a topic and perhaps attract some attention from folks not currently subscribed.
By the way, did I mention that I lowered the price of becoming a Maker?
I fully expect some folks to bounce after reading this update, and that’s ok. Sorry to see you go, but I get it. I also understand the trajectory of this publication has the potential to turn it into something significant for creative people like you.
This is all an experiment and we’ll see where it leads, but I’m looking forward to the opportunity to fill inboxes with more creative inspiration.
As always, I encourage comments and input. If you have thoughts about the change, please share them with us (or reply directly and share them with me alone.
That’s all I’ve got for this one. I’ll see you on Friday.
Dave,
First, thank you for inspiring me to start making my art a priority and to start getting it out there. Second, I clicked on the Shopify link (3 months for $3) it’s only showing $1 for 1 month, is there anything special I need to do, or did I not proceed far enough? Thank you from one of your many fans, Kim.
