I'm sorry, but you've gotta go
I may not be the king of putting too many obstacles in my way, but I’m definitely a high-ranking duke
I’m making more room in my schedule for you
It’s fair to say that I’ve had a bit of an awakening with the content I’m sharing here and on other platforms, and though the small transition has been a bit bumpy, I feel pretty good about it, and I’m doubling down on my focus.
The problem is that I have a lot of other fingers in unrelated pies, and as much as I like those pies, I need to let them go.
Last year I decided to give myself a personal challenge to design thirty t-shirt designs in 30 days during the month of September. It was a spur-of-the-moment idea, and when I shared it with someone else, they said I should tell others and open it up to the public. That was the beginning of Shirtember.
However, I haven’t been making t-shirts much lately and I don’t have much interest in starting, because it’s not aligned with my new objectives, and that means I don’t have space for Shirtember this year.
I know that’s going to upset some folks, but I hope they understand that my bowing out opens up more room for me to do things that I believe will have a bigger impact.
I want to change lives
That sounds so pretentious when I read that back to myself, but it’s legitimately true. At least once a week, I’ll get an email, DM, or comment on a post from someone who expresses an appreciation for the work I put out, wishing they could be more creative, prolific, adventurous, or bold in their creative expression like me.
Internally, I’m screaming inside because those types of comments make me want to reach through the computer, shake them vigorously by the shoulders (with love), and holler, “YOU CAN!”
And so can you!
A few weeks ago when I close friend told me she wished she could be more fearless in her approach to her work, a small bomb went off in my head, lighting up all the synapses in my brain—It’s time for me to do more for these people.
Now I don’t have much to share just yet, but what I have planned is my most ambitious project to date, and there’s no doubt in my mind that it will bring the kind of change that artists, designers, photographers, and other creative people need.
I’m confident this project will have a big impact on people because when I look back on my own career If someone had shared this wisdom with me early on, it would have changed my life, and saved me so much heartache.
You’re going to want a piece of this, I promise, and all I ask of you right now is to share this message with someone you think needs a creative boost (link below).
Oh, and if you’re not subscribed to my YouTube channel, I recommend you get on that because things are going to get serious (and fun) this coming week.
Until next time, watch this stop-motion video of a classic Range Rover being fully restored.
Cheers,
Dave
