Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a project so far outside of my comfort zone, I haven’t really worked on anything else other than obligations (gifts and such).
This thing is still in progress but getting I’m getting close to the end, and it felt good to do nothing but focus on just one project for a bit.
It’s made entirely from dollar-store toys and random recycled plastic and junk and I made it because I found myself watching a ridiculous amount of YouTube videos about scratch-built projects (thanks, Bill).
The upside to working on this project was that it required definitive moments of rest, which was good because I also came down with the flu over the holiday. Instead of me jumping into another project while I waited for this one to cure, I did nothing except hang out with my family.
However, starting Monday, my son goes back to school and my wife is done with her vacation days, so it’s back to business as usual, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to make more ugly tank things.
I made this one as a gift for my son, and just to see if I could do it, but I’m already imagining the crazy abstract things I’ll be making because of the things I’ve learned.
The truth is I don’t even know what that means yet. Even when I think about what I learned working on this project and add in the idea of my more abstract art, I don’t know how it manifests. I supposed we’ll find out together soon.
And of course, while I’m waiting for things to cure, I’ll be working on other projects.
An appeal to your generous nature
